Canadian Mental Health Association | “Prince Kintsukuroi”
Winning Bid:
$1,200.00
Prince Kintsukuroi
The concept of the horse, and his name, was derived from the Japanese art form of kintsukuroi, the process of repairing pottery with gold or silver and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken. The design of the horse incorporates this concept throughout as our visual manifestation of the journey of recovery for individuals with both mental health and addiction challenges.
All work – from design to finished product – was undertaken in various capacities by staff and volunteers from both CMHA – Calgary region and our partners at Fresh Start Recovery Centre (who also graciously opened up their facility for us to use as our workspace).
Prince Kintsukuroi has been painted in CMHA’s corporate colours and the stained glass pieces all are derivatives of the same corporate colours. Hidden in the blanket are both the initial’s “FS”, a play on the Calgary Stampede’s “CS” brand, as well as CMHA’s icon.
